"The Power of SHAZAM!"

It’s finally official: The Rock (or should I say Dwayne Johnson) is playing Black Adam in WB’s Shazam movie. This casting is so good that there has to be a catch.

And there is.

“2014 Summer Movie Wrap Up”

It’s now Labor Day, which can only mean one thing: summer, and the movies that came with it, are over. This summer movie season saw a huge amount of comic book and other geek friendly movies hit our screens, some good (Guardians of the Galaxy) and some bad (Amazing Spider-Man 2).  So, how do they all stack up when we put them against one another? I’m glad you asked, because it’s time for my annual Summer Movie Wrap Up!

“So Long Superior Foes Of Spider-Man

Superior Foes of Spider-Man is ending in November. Now it’s not surprising, as Superior Foes hasn’t exactly been burning up the sales charts, but there’s still a part of me that wishes this series would still continue (not without Nick Spencer and Steve Lieber, of course).

“The Sinister Sony”

Another week, another Sony Spider-Man rumor. Unfortunately for me, this one goes against the current crop of rumors suggesting that Marvel Studios MAY get the rights back.  The latest news from Sony’s Spider-man “brain trust” has announced that they are planning another film alongside the in development Sinister Six and Venom (or should I now say Venom Carnage) movies: one that will feature, for the first time in a post-Avengers world, a female lead.

“Comic Con 2014 Round Up”

Another San Diego Comic Con has come and gone, and with it comes a whole slew of announcements both movie and comics related. This year, I was surprised to see that a lot of things I was expecting to happen (WB revealing the cast of the Justice League, or Marvel telling us the actor that will become Doctor Strange) didn’t happen at all.  Despite this, there were still plenty of announcements and surprises, to get our nerd engines running, and we’ll start with a pretty big one from Marvel Comics…..

Gotham // jetpackcomics.com"Welcome to Gotham"

So Fox revealed the first trailer for Gotham  this week, and it looks pretty cool! Not “ohmygodneedtowatchimmediately” cool, but “I’ll definitely check this out” cool. For those of you who have either forgotten about the New Batman-less Batman show or weren’t aware of it before now, Gotham is the new WB produced show that follows rookie cop Jim Gordon as he navigates his way through Gotham City’s dark alleys, crime families, and other aspects that will  make the city your top spot to visit through Travelocity.  It’s also serving as a quasi-Smallville take on the Batman, if early reports are to be believed.

JLA// jetpackcomics.com"Justice League of Steel"

So what we were long expecting has now come to pass: Zack Snyder is directing the rumored Justice League film, and that movie will follow Batman vs. Superman/Man of Steel 2. What does this mean? Well, for one, I can finally stop worrying so damn much about the Man of Steel sequel, and it probably means that both Justice League and MoS 2 will be filming back to back.

"2014 Summer Movie Preview!"

Yes, the summertime is almost here, and you know what that means……no, not going outside and going to the beach, summer movies! Just like summer movie seasons past, the slate of summer 2014 blockbusters is full of superheroes, aliens, and big explosions. However, there is a lack of DC being represented…

Anyways, here are the top summer movies that I’m looking forward to, starting with a certain webslinger that you all know I’m fond of:

“Secret Agent Man”

So Dick Grayson is going to be a secret agent.

Ooooooookay.

Yes, Nightwing is surviving Forever Evil (spoilersI guess), and is going to come out of it a very different character than when he went in. For one, his identity is out in the open (and still no one pieces together that Bruce Wayne might be Batman), and the world at large will believe he is dead. So what’s a presumed dead guy in the DC universe to do? Pull a Winter Soldier, of course!

Look, I don’t want to knock this new direction before I try it, but this seems really, really weird. As much as DC will probably deny it, this move does seem like a stretch, and this is coming from a guy who unabashedly loves the Flash Thompson Venom.  Maybe my apprehension stems from seeing Dick Grayson, a guy who’s been trained by the Batman himself, wielding a gun on the first promotional image. As far as I can remember, Dick Grayson’s never been against guns in the same way that Bruce Wayne is, but if someone has been trained by a man who directly tells his wards that “guns are the weapons of cowards”, I have a hard time believing that Dick would be all for grabbing the nearest pistol and taking out foreign bad guys.
