Volume 5, Issue 49!
“ Let Me Take You For A Ride”
It’s official; we’re getting Marvel vs. Capcom 4. Well, Marvel Vs Capcom Infinite, to be exact. After a mysterious “4” logo popped up on social media with the logos for Marvel and Capcom at the bottom, the video game community exploded into a frenzy. Now that the reveal has happened, and Marvel and Capcom are able to get together for another brawl, what’s it gonna look like?
A lot like Marvel Vs. Capcom 3 I’d imagine. Seriously though, it probably won’t stray too far from what the company set up in the third MvC game and the “ultimate” edition that hit afterwards. My hope though is that it’ll feature more characters. Marvel Vs. Capcom 2 featured an INSANE amount of fighters on both sides, and while some were just palette swapped versions of other characters (looking at you, “War Machine”), it still made for some pretty epic battles.
Of course, making a roster that is anywhere near the level of Marvel Vs Capcom 2 would be a pretty hefty undertaking. Plus there’s that whole pesky licensing deal that’s now in place. Sure, this wasn’t an issue when the third game hit, but a lot has changed in the past few years in regards to how Marvel treats the characters that they don’t own the movie rights too, and I wouldn’t be surprised if some characters aren’t initially in the game at first. While early rumors are suggesting that there won’t be any mutant characters in the game AT ALL, I can’t believe that Capcom and Marvel would remove Wolverine and Deadpool from the game. Cable, Sentinel, and Magneto however, will probably be gone.
Naturally a bigger question than returning characters is what new characters will enter the game for Marvel. If licensing has changed a lot since MvC 3, you can bet that character popularity has changed as well. We’ve definitely got Captain Marvel as a new addition, but not much else is knows about the game. While Rocket Raccoon was included in the Ultimate version of the previous game, I think it’s a safe bet that he’ll be in this new one, probably with other Guardians as well. You can also probably rest easy that Doctor Strange will be in it too, since he’s got a pretty successful new flick out. I wouldn’t be surprised to see Ms. Marvel enter the arena either, and her powers would actually make for a pretty awesome fighter.
Whatever ends up happening with Marvel vs. Capcom Infinite, it’s good to see that the fandom is still alive and well for the series. Hopefully they’re able to use Wolverine and a few other mutant characters in the game, but at the same time, it’ll be cool to see some other characters, and what the system will look like on current gen systems.
