The Rochester, NH Free Comic Book Day Festival is a Free Comic Book Day event like no other.  While Free Comic Book Day (FCBD) is a worldwide event, celebrating the culture of comic books & graphic story telling, the city of Rochester, NH with the help of Jetpack Comics & Games, does it different.  Very different.

Spearheaded by The Rochester Main Street program, the City of Rochester and additional sponsors, we have all worked together to provide a FREE, fun, family friendly day in our city.

The week prior to the event you will find various establishments, in and around town, offering Comic Day specials.  Every year is different and each event is held and sponsored by the respective business hosting the event.

Leading up to FCBD you will be able to find various details about the day on Jetpack Comics website (www.jetpackcomics.com).  The website is updated every few days, starting in January, with details and news, as it comes in.  A few weeks before FCBD you can download the Comic Book scavenger hunt map.

The Comic Book Scavenger Hunt takes place all over Rochester downtown proper.  It is a walking scavenger hunt, directed in a way that highlights the beauty and diversity of our historic downtown, while exposing people to the new and old businesses that Rochester’s downtown has to offer.   Each year there are 2 – 3 dozen stops on the map, where a family or group can get a free comic book.  From local businesses to charity groups, every organization is welcome to be a part of FCBD.  There is a limit of one comic book per group/family at each stop.  We want to insure every group that attends leaves with as many comic books as possible.

At Jetpack Comics you will be able to choose more than one comic with additional chances to pick up more or make a purchase of some at cost. In additional, there may be remote locations (places you can’t walk to) that you can drive to, after the event, to grab even more free comic books.  The scavenger hunt map will have all these details.  At each stop, you have the establishment initial your map so you can enter to win a Comic Book gift basket.  See map for details.  Only completed maps are eligible to win.

As if that weren’t enough, don’t miss the event hall.  Every year there are dozens of tables featuring some of the top talent in the comic book industry, local celebrities, comic book vendors, authors, illustrators and more.  If you’ve never been to a comic book convention, this is a great place to get a feel for what you would find, on a smaller scale.  The event hall is FREE to enter and always features more stops for more free comic books.  Interested in being a vendor?  Space is always limited to reach out early.

Costumes are encouraged.  Hundreds of people come in costume, to embrace the spirit of the day. You may win additional free comic books at some locations, and walk away with prizes if you enter our costume contest and win.  The costume contest starts about 4 pm and runs until it is over.  You can find the costume contest details on our site, as we post them, but there are no wrong or right ways to participate.  Just have fun.

Still looking for more to do on FCBD.  Stick around for the after party.  The warm up band goes on just after the costume contest with the main band starting around 7 pm.  You’ll find many of the creators / guests from the day enjoying the after party and hanging out with fans.  Taking place at The Garage at the Governor’s Inn the after party is a great chance to kick back, eat, drink, read some comic books, listen to great music, and end your day immersed in pop culture with an awesome group of nerds.

Every year FCBD in downtown Rochester, NH is a unique experience.  Save the date and bring the family to the largest (only) Free Comic Book Day Festival in world.
